Lesson 2 (2nd & 3rd October 2013, teacher: Marilin Janson): Quantitative flotation

Lesson contents:
- Learning and performing quantitative flotation using a reading chamber
- Understanding limitations and strengths of the flotation technique
- Calculation of egg counts
- Interpretation of egg counts
- Morphologically try to identify larvae in samples
- Learning and performing the Ziehl-Neelsen technique
- Understanding limitations and strengths of the Ziehl-Neelsen technique
- Calculate semi-quantitative estimates of oocyst load in samples investigated with the Ziehl-Neelsen technique
- Interpretation of results of the Ziehl-Neelsen technique
Lesson 3 (9 & 10th October 2013, teacher: Brian Lassen): Sedimentation technique, constructing a reading chamber, evidence based parasite control with anti-helmintics, controlling animal transmission and environmental transmission.
- Learning to perform the simple sedimentation technique
- Interpretation of sedimentation results
- Know how to construct reading chambers from simple components
- Understanding how evidence based parasite control can work on herd level.
- Understanding the dangers of non-evidenced based parasite control.
- Understanding how to interrupt the parasites life cycle in the environment and between animals.
